Soar Above the Clouds: Your Complete Guide to Awana Skyway at Genting Highlands

If you're planning a trip to Genting Highlands, there's one experience you simply cannot miss — the Awana Skyway Cable Car. Offering breathtaking aerial views of the lush rainforest and cool mountain air, this iconic gondola ride is the perfect start to your highland adventure. Whether you're a first-time visitor or a returning guest, here's everything you need to know before you ride.

What is Awana Skyway?

Awana Skyway is one of Southeast Asia's longest gondola cable car systems, stretching from Sky Sentral Station (1,105 metres above sea level) all the way up to Genting Highlands Station (1,725 metres above sea level). The 10-minute ride covers a vertical elevation of 620 metres, giving you stunning panoramic views of the Titiwangsa mountain range and the dense tropical rainforest below. It's not just a ride — it's an experience.

The Three Stations

1. Sky Central Station — The main boarding point located at Genting Highlands Premium Outlets (GHPO) at mid-hill. Park your car here or hop on a free shuttle from Resorts World Awana or Gohtong Jaya Bus Terminal.

2. Chin Swee Station — Stop here at no extra cost with your cable car ticket! Explore the beautiful Chin Swee Caves Temple, featuring a 9-storey pagoda, a giant Buddha statue, and a sky terrace with incredible views over the mountains.

3. Genting Highlands Station (SkyAvenue) — The final destination at the peak! Step off and you're connected directly to SkyAvenue Mall, First World Hotel, and all the entertainment Resorts World Genting has to offer.

Awana Skyway Cable Car Operating Hours

The Awana Skyway operates daily:

- Main Stations (Sky Sentral & SkyAvenue): 7:00 AM – 11:00 PM

- Chin Swee Station: 8:00 AM – 7:00 PM

How to Get There?

- By Car: Drive to Genting Highlands Premium Outlets and park at the Sky Sentral car park. The cable car station is a short walk away.

- By Bus: Regular express buses depart from KL Sentral, Pudu Sentral, and other major terminals in Kuala Lumpur. They drop off at Gohtong Jaya Bus Terminal, from where a free shuttle takes you to Sky Sentral.

- By Taxi / Grab: Book a ride directly to Genting Highlands Premium Outlets (Sky Sentral) for the most convenient door-to-station experience.

Tips Before You Ride

- Arrive early on weekends and public holidays — queues can get very long, especially during peak hours.

- Bring a jacket! Genting Highlands sits at over 1,700 metres above sea level — it's cool and misty year-round, even on sunny days.

- Each passenger may bring one cabin-sized bag into the gondola. Oversized baggage incurs a surcharge of RM20 (one-way) or RM35 (return).

- Pets are not allowed inside the gondola or at any of the stations.

- Try the glass floor gondola for the ultimate thrill — it's worth the upgrade for the views and photos!
